Root Apex Zone

It is highly growing region of root because maximum cell division occurs in this zone.

This zone is present just above the root cap zone.

In this region , meristematic cells divides contentiously which have maximum cytoplasm and thin cell wall.

Cells of this region lacks inter-cellular spaces.

Zone Of Elongation -

Size and shape enlargement of cells occurs in this zone so , length of root increases.

These cells absorb more water , vacuole , development is also occurs in these cells.

At the end of elongation zone , cell starts differentiation to perform specific functions.

Zone Of Maturation

It is also known as root hair zone.

All cells are completely differentiated to perform specific function in this zone as epiblema , cortex , endodermis , pericycle , phloem and xylem.

Some cells of epiblema  forms root hair ( unicellular ) to increase surface area for water absorption.

Lateral branches of roots originated from cells of pericycle : that is called endogenouos origin.

Cells of this zone have thick cell wall due to deposition of cuticle so , cells of root can also provide mechanical support to the plant.
