Morphology Of Angiosperms / Flowering Plants

Morphology - Study of various variation in external structure of plants is called plant morphology .

Different types of structures and modifications of plant organ are studied in morphology .it is useful for study of evolution in plants .

Morphology is also useful to study to study te identification of organism.

Any deviation in general morphology is used to identify disease in plants physiological and pathological .

Parts Of Flowering Plants

In higher plants, the plant body is sporophytic diplod 2n and well differentiated  into root and shoot .

Root is developed from radicle while shoot is developed from plumule.

Mainly A Plant Is Divided Into Two Parts

1. Root System

2. Shoot System

1. Root System- Root System is originated from radicle. It is underground part of plant.

2. Shoot System- It Is originated from plumule. it is areal part of plant.

it consist of stem , branches , leaves , flowers , fruits , bud etc.

Complete organ of plant is divided into :-

1. Vegetative  Organs :- Vegetative organs consists of leaves , stem , roots , branches .

2. Reproductive Organ :-  These organs are flower , fruit , bud .

The Root System - It Is Non - green , non- photosynthetic  underground part of plant which gives rise to other secondary and tertiary root and does not possess nodes and internodes.

General Characters of root

1. Non - green , non - photosynthetic , underground part of plant .

2. Grow downward in the soil so positively geotrophic and positively hydrotrophic.

3. The root apex is sub-apical part of root it is protected by root cap.

4. The roots have unicellular root hairs which increases surface area for water absorption.

5. These are not divided into nodes and internodes. they do not have leaves , buds , reproductive organs.

6. Lateral branches of root are endogenous in origin and arise from pericycle.( internal side )

Zones Of A Root  -

It is root -cap zone . it is cap like structure of parenchymatous cells which project root apex.

The cells of root cap secretes a chemical called mucilage whic hep root to penetrate the hard soil.

Root cap is present in all angiosperms plants .

In some plants , root caps are replaced by root pockets eg , pistia , lemna
