Plantae - Notes For Neet

Plantae

Many multicellular eukaryotic plants are included in this Kingdom.

These all plants are autotrophic so forms their food itself.

The plant Kingdom is divided into many groups -

  • Algae
  • Thallophyta
  • Bryophyta
  • Pteridophyta
  • Gymnosperm
  • Angiosperm

1.Algae

Algae are photosynthetic plants which have chloroplast.

Algae found in fresh and marine water.

Algae lives in the form of a colony power signal filamentous.

A musilagenous sheath is present on surrounding of algae, just below this layer cell wall of pecto - cellulose is present.

The name algae is given by lineas.

Study of algae is known as phycology.

Father of psychology - Fristch.

Structure of algae is thalloid.

Three type of reproduction found in algae -

1. Vegetative propagation by binary fission and fragmentation.

2. Asexual reproduction by forming zoospore in a favourable condition

3. Sexual reproduction

male sex organs of algae are called antheridium while female sex organs called oogonium.

Sex organs are unicellular and non jacketed in algae.

Main plant body of algae is haploid and so life cycle of algae is haplontic type.

On the basis of cell wall composition , photosynthetic pigments and storage of food , the algae are classified into three division --

1. Chlorophyta

2. Phaeophyta

3. Rhodophyta

1. Chllorophyta -

It is most developed algae which is ancestor of higher plants.

It may be unicellular, colonial, multicellular filamentous and ,multicellular thalloid.

Photosynthetic pigments in this algae are chlorophyll, carotene and xanthophyll.

It have green colour due to presence of chlorophyll.

It stores starch in the form of pyranoid granule.
