Other Terms for flower





1. Unisexual

Flower having either male part stamen for female part carpel are called unisexual flower may be staminate and pistillate.

2. Bisexual

Either having both male and female part is stamen and carpel

3. Neuter / Sterile / Nutral -

Flower having only calyx and Corolla are called sterile flower

4. Monoecious Plant -

When both type of unisexual flower pistillate or staminate are present on same plant.

5. Dioecious -

When male or female flower are present on different parts (it may be unisexual flower).

6. Polygnous Plant -

When unisexual and bisexual flowers are present on the same plant. Eg , mango , cashew , nut , etc.

7. Dimerous -

When flower organs are multiple of 2. Eg , poppy.

8. Trimerous -

Flower organs are multiple of 3 eg , monocot flower.

9. Tetramerous -

Floral organs are multiple of 4 , example mustard.

10. Pentamerous -

Floral organs are multiple of 5, example solanum and China rose.






Parts of flower


1. Calyx -


It is outermost part which is green flattened and provides protection to other floral parts in bud condition.

A. Sepal -


Unit of caylx is called sepal.

B. Polyseplous -


Free end separate sepals are present in calox then it is called polyseplous.

C. Gamoeseplous -


When sepals are are United.

D. Pappous -


When sepals are reduced to persistent , tough hairs. Eg, asteraceae family.

E. Cadocous -


When sepals falls off very early.

F. Deciduous -


When sepals falls off just after fertilization. Eg , Mustard.

G. Persistent -


It doesn't falls off and remain attached even two fruits example tomato.

H. Accerescent Calyx -


Persistent calyx growing in size along with fruits example plysalis.

2. Corolla -


It is a second whorl of a flower , made of petals.

A .Petal -

Unit of corolla, generally coloured, non photosynthetic, attractive.

B. Polypetalous -

Free Peatls.

C. Gamopetalous -

United Petals.

D. Perianth -

It is collective term for calyx and Corolla, when calyx and Corolla are not distinguished separately.

E. Tepal -

Unit of perianth or individual member of perianth is called Tepal.

F. Achlamydeous -

Without perianth or naked flower is called achlamydeous
